meet AnnaMarie

Hi, I’m Anna, the designer and artist behind West Finch.

I’ve been in love with books, writing, and art for as long as I can remember. I was raised on Nancy Drew, started writing way too many books about horses in elementary school, and loved drawing, knitting, sewing, and about every other creative thing I could get my hands on. Even my first job fit perfectly — working at the front desk of the local library, which was in an old house with its very own library cat.

I grew up on the east coast and studied graphic design and photography in Philadelphia. These days I live in Denver with my sister and my cat, Daisy Mae.

If I could live any story right now, I’d be investigating a mystery by candlelight in an old castle (complete with a huge, cozy library of course) while a thunderstorm rages outside!

A FUN FACT ABOUT ME

I AM THE GREAT-GREAT-GREAT (ETC.) GRANDDAUGHTER OF MARTHA CARRIER, ONE OF TWENTY PEOPLE EXECUTED IN THE SALEM WITCH TRIALS

“The Salem [court records]… reveal that her crime was not witchcraft but an independence of mind and an unsubmissive character.” — I am proud to share her spirit.

— Quote from University of Virginia Library

behind the name

I grew up on the east coast, on Finch Road. Bare feet in the grass, a log house on a hill off a dirt & gravel road, picking raspberries in the summer, playing in the woods every chance we got... That hilltop was the place that made me who I am.

At a big crossroads in my life, I had to choose between someone I loved and following my dreams. I chose myself, and I moved out west to Colorado. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

West Finch honors my childhood home alongside the idea of flying west, finding yourself, and finding freedom in the mountains & the wild.

giving back

My love of creative expression as a means of making a difference and to find healing began in college after an abusive relationship, when I felt compelled to create my very first self-published book, Flowers from Wildfires. I asked if anyone would share their own stories with me, and they did. And that book saved me. And it continues to save me— the reason my purpose exists is because of those pages, those stories, and the messages of those who it moved to tears.

In the spirit of our Flowers from Wildfires project, we aspire to give back to causes that are deeply meaningful to us through our shop. We believe that caring about those around us is a beautiful part of being human, and it’s a mission that’s very important to us.

love letters

“This is absolutely the most beautiful book I have ever read and I have read a lot of wonderful books.

This book has amazing illustration throughout and was set up in a poetry style that I really like and works well for this book. Every picture was really beautifully done and very fitting for whatever was happening at that point in the stories of these people lives.”
